The Virginia Creeper Trail is a 34.3 mile bike trail from Whitetop Station to Abington, Va.  Since it is downhill from Whitetop to Damascus, Va, many use this as a stopping point. The Appalachian Trail crosses the road in Damascus (look for a set of stairs on your left) on your way to Whitetop.  You can enjoy a good breakfast at Damascus Diner or if you're a late starter there is a Creeper Trail Cafe at 11 miles.  Just cross the bridge to the left.  You can bring your own bike or rent at one of the several bike shops.  They will shuttle you to Whitetop Station and you can just coast back down to Damascus or continue pedaling to Abington!  Mount Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia, is nearby
